DOUBLE CLEANSING:
WHY THE 2ND CLEANSE IS COMPLETELY WORTH IT
If you have heard of the term ‘double cleansing’ before, you may be forgiven for rolling your eyes and assuming this is just like when shampoo bottles instruct us to shampoo twice, only to end up using more product and having to buy more. However, many tests have been carried out that have proven shampooing twice is not total nonsense, as the first wash rids the hair of grease and product build-up, and the second wash produces a deeper clean for hair. Hairstylists worldwide swear by shampooing twice, and now skincare specialists are swearing by a double cleanse!
WHY?
Just like shampooing twice, cleansing your face twice helps to rid the skin of impurities and product build-up, whilst also allowing your 2nd facial cleanser to be applied directly to freshly cleansed skin, allowing it to absorb all the vitamins and minerals and providing a deep facial cleanser that will noticeably make your skin shine. It may be adding a few more minutes to your skincare routine every evening, but your skin calls for this attention as it suffers through so much during the day!
HOW DO I ‘DOUBLE CLEANSE’?
Now, it may sound self-explanatory, but nobody wants o risk harming the face without specialist advice and tips if they are out there. To experience the full benefits of a double cleanse, it is recommended your first cleanser be a cream or oil that will melt the oils on the skin's surface and break down build-up. Think milky cleansers or cleansing micellar oils. Then follow by a cleaning lotion or cleansing gel to thoroughly cleanse the skin and leave your ‘canvas’ feeling soft, smooth and clean before bed.
As everybody is different, different methods work for different skin types. A double cleanse might be too rough for incredibly sensitive skin, but as long as you stick to specially formulated products that are gentle on sensitive skin, it may be worth testing if a double cleanse works for you. If so, continue forward but be careful as a double cleanse does not call for scrubbing into the skin a little too harshly. Gentle, small circular motions work wonders. Also, if you do not find yourself wearing too much makeup through the week, 2-3 times a week is more than enough.
